Fragment of the Book of Life

A child's notebook open on a wooden table, a few lines written large in red pencil, the worn-down red pencil beside it; spring light from a window.

Four entries in Lia Reynova’s sixth notebook. Made in March 2037, immediately after the timewalk with Noma. In ochre pencil, the same with which on that day was inscribed the date “21.03.37.” The dates on the entries — placed by her hand, in future years. Spelling Lia’s (ten years), with childlike simplifications and two uncorrected slips. Published without editing.

2048, 22.

Today for the first time I led a Triad. Sasha and Irina — coped. With me it came without effort. Called Papa in the evening; he cried into the phone and pretended not to. I — did too.

2061, 35.
